Jelly donuts are sneaky. If it wasn’t for the pea-sized spot of jelly on the side, you’d never be able to tell the difference between the jelly donut and the gross custard donut sitting next to it in the box. But if you came to my house, you’d find that I’m even sneakier. That donut you see above has been doctored – transforming a delicious donut into a fantastic one. If you haven’t seen the PBJ donut in your local donut shop, it’s because I patented it. But I’m willing to sell the idea, just tell Mr. Dunkin to give me a call, I’ve had my eye on a particular Ferrari for a while now. Read on to see just how delicious this donut is.

Ingredients:Print

1 Jelly donut
2 Tbsp creamy or crunchy peanut butter
2 Tbsp low-sugar fruit preserves (optional)

Directions:

1. When noone is looking, remove the jelly donut from the box and use a sharp knife to surgically slice it in half lengthwise (so it looks like a hamburger bun). Scoop the jelly out of one half and replace with peanut butter, being sure not to skimp on filling like Mr. Dunkin did. Optionally scoop out the jelly from the other half and replace with some good fruit preserves.

2. Place the two halves back together, the peanut butter will help keep it intact. Attempt to hide the seam as best possible and surreptitiously place the donut back in the box. Your spouse, significant other or child will be delightfully surprised at the explosion of flavor (and boosted nutrition) of my patented PBJ donut, unless they have peanut allergies that is.

Hi, Nick. You are very sneaky – and clever. I can only imagine how good this would be in an outstanding donut (not that I’m dissin’ Mr. Dunkin and his products).

    Thanks,

    Dan

Oh my goodness! This looks wonderful. How about you open your own donut shop and make sure it is close to me in Orlando

  3. That looks a lot like a sandwich I once made around here. :)

Hmmm… what was that called again? Oh yeah, I remember:

Only you would think of this :)

Ok, I am a runner (triathlete, actually), not a foodie, but this is pretty darn funny! Impressive amount of carbs, I must say. I happen to be tapering and carbo-loading right now. In other words, sitting on my behind eating, thinking about eating and reading about eating. I wonder if this puppy would make my time faster in my race on Sunday? Hmmm… better not try it, the guy in front of me might not be too impressed to find it on his shirt, lol!

    Cool blog, btw!

Haha, I think this would be the perfect triathalon power food. There’s really no better time to consume this! In fact, make one and bring it to the starting line – the jelly will give you instant energy, the peanut butter will give you long-lasting energy and the donut will give you serotonin to keep you happy and motivated =)

  7. I can’t even look at this photo without the opening strains of “Let’s Get It On” popping into my head…

  8. Jb says:

I saw on the food channel a place that actually has a pBJ donut. It’s a regular jelly filled dipped in a peanut butter type of topping.

    • Nick says:

Yes, I’ve had it! I think you’re referring to a place in the lowest east side of NYC, although I can’t remember the name of it at the moment….

unless you invented this before circa 1999 you were definately not the first to come up with this. Kenan and Kel already did it in one of their episodes, and i think they deserve some cred yo check it on the youtube link starting at 3:19 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bLhC2H9ZjE&feature=related

“whew, hey kel you know what? Ya’ll should put peanut butter peanut butter in there wit the jelly, then you can make peanut butter and jelly donuts”

    • Nick says:

That’s a very good point! I even remember that episode! Fine, so maybe I wasn’t the first to “invent” it but I’m still taking cred for being the first to “create” it!

Ick, yeh I hate those custard-filled donuts, I think they are just plain odd. Much prefer the jammy/jelly ones.

I’ve never actually tried the whole peanut butter and jelly/jam combo in any scenario but this donufied version looks yum!

    • Nick says:

Custard has no flavor and such a terrible texture, I don’t get the appeal!

Yea, you can’t go wrong with a donufied version of pretty much anything!
