Anyone else a fan of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”? Do you remember the “Grilled Charlie”? Here’s how you make a true Grilled Charlie. This may not be an exact replica of the Grilled Charlie, but it’s the most I could stomach. Adding crunchy peanut butter to a grilled cheese adds nuttiness, good texture, and more gooey goodness. Remember, everything is better with peanut butter.

Ingredients:Print

2 slices whole wheat bread
1 or 2 slices American cheese
2 Tbsp crunchy peanut butter w/ salt
1 tsp butter

Directions:

Spread peanut butter onto one slice of bread, then top with cheese and remaining slice of bread. Spread half of the butter on one side of the sandwich and place the other half in a small skillet. Heat the skillet on medium heat. When the butter is melted, place the sandwich (un-buttered side down) into the skillet and cover with a lid. Flip when the bottom is brown and crispy, about 2 minutes. Cover and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

      I’m using the peanut flour a lot so far, mostly for protein shakes but also for crepes, a recipe I’ll post soon.

    I just found your blog today and I have enjoyed reading thru all the recipes-
    I used to eat a sandwich growing up with PB, cheese and bacon. Not too healthy but oh so good together!!

      Mmm, bacon sounds like a good addition. I thought I was the only one crazy enough to mash peanut butter and cheese together – it’s great to find another freak =)

    Honestly I loved Peanut Butter and Cheez Whiz on toast for years. Even in a Sandwich. Never buy Cheez Whiz anymore so I haven’t had it in a while. But I sometimes do english muffin topped with peanut butter and sliced cheese. Pretty good but not as good as Cheez Whiz! This version looks good too!

      Wow, Cheez Whiz? Sounds crazy enough to work! If you don’t plan to buy Cheez Whiz than I suppose this is your second best option?

      You know what kind of tastes like Cheez Whiz? Those cheese balls/logs you can get. I just got one the other day that’s a spreadable cheddar cheese and coated in sliced almonds. Tastes surprisingly like Cheez Whiz – I’ll have to make a PB&C with it!

    I like the peanut butter melted on the toast, then fresh cheese thinnly sliced in the middle afterwards – the difference in texture/temperature adds an extra dimension to a toasted sandwich

      Wait, so you’re saying that you toast the bread first, then spread on the peanut butter, then place cheese on top of the peanut butter, assemble, and toast the whole thing again in a pan?

    food for thought: I eat tuna/peanut butter sandwhiches everyday, PROTEIN! :D

    peanut butter and cheese (especially orange cheddar cheese) on a bagel are great. Another really good one is peanut butter and cream cheese on a bagel or toast.

    I’ve been eating peanut butter and cheese on toast since 1975. I’ve never encountered another human being familiar with this combination(and I’ve lived all over this country). Every time I eat it, people look at me like I have three heads.Does anyone know where the combo originated?

    I didn’t know that there were other people into combining peanut Burr and cheese either?! Cool! My sister and I have been eating today with melted peanut butter, with freshly cut cheese (like Pete) for over two decades! Except ours is an open faced sandwich. :) Never thought to melt the cheese either. Lol

      That just goes to show how important the temperature of each ingredient is! I’ve done peanut butter and cold cheese on crackers, and it’s delicious. I suggest you try melting both ingredients and see if you like it!
