What gives humans the right to hog all the peanut butter? Is it just because we’re the only species that can make it? Share the wealth I say! Every creature deserves some peanut butter once in a while which is why I have made some delightful dog biscuits.

I originally found the recipe at one of my favorite recipe sites, Allrecipes. I didn’t change much except that I don’t have a dog. What, you ask, was my motivation to make these? To be honest I stumbled upon the recipe while looking up peanut butter baked goods. I was amazed at how healthy and nutritious they were so I figured I’d give them a try. But I also made them for you guys! I know a lot of you have dogs and I figured that I would help you share our love of peanut butter with your personal pups.

I was a little surprised that none of the other reviewers had tasted them. Well I can proudly say that I was the first creature with advanced thought (not by much) and the ability of speech to review this recipe. In case you’re curious they’re a bit dry, which is to be expected – it’s dog food. As for the shapes, I didn’t have a dog-bone cutout so I made shaped them with a knife. I quickly tired of that and gave some thought as to other shapes that would make them more appealing to dogs. Dogs are notorious for eating their own poop so why not shape them into perfect little coils? Those were actually the tastiest ones as they were a little bit chewier.

Ingredients:Print

1 large banana
1/4 cup egg substitute (1 egg)
1/3 cup creamy natural peanut butter w/ salt
1 T honey (more if you plan on eating them too)
1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 cup wheat germ

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees and lightly grease a baking sheet.

2. Mash the banana with the back of a fork in a medium bowl until very few clumps remain. Add the egg, peanut butter and honey until thoroughly mixed. Stir in the flour and wheat germ and mix well.

3. Place dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to about 1/4″ thick. Cut into desired shapes. If you don’t have a rolling pin, like myself, use a washed wine or alcohol bottle to flatten the dough. If you don’t have any cookie cutters, also like myself, use the screw cap from a spice bottle or get creative and roll the dough out to make the little “piles” below.

4. Bake for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

5. Serve with coffee or tea when good behavior deserves a reward.

Final Thought:

Nothin’ like a steamin’ hot one in the morning.

Eeeuw! Poop cookies? And you had the gall to be grossed out by my innocent cleanse post? I applaud your generous spirit though, making dog biscuits even though you are dogless – that’s dedication to PNB. Maybe you could give them out to homeless people with dogs as a kind of charity Peanut-butter promotion?

Charlie, you always thought you were a dog in your previous life! Maybe it’s true!

I love making dog treats and bones even though I don’t have a dog!!! I give them away to my friends dogs and they all love me now more than their owners, ha!! The poop ones are cute!! You visited my blog and didn’t check out my peanut butter and jelly muffins-I thought for sure you’d be all over them!!

  6. Vittoria says:

Those are cute! I have friends who’ve eaten commercial dogs treats. Personally I wouldn’t want to feed my pets anything that I wouldn’t eat.

  7. Ben says:

LOL! Those are amazing! I ate dog food once and I was sick for a while. But these treats look just perfect, especially the little ones that look like poop.

  8. Maggie says:

The poo ones are hilarious! Doggy treats were the first recipe I let my son “measure” on his own. It wasn’t as though the dogs would know when he dumped in a couple more spoons of honey and dumped half the flour on the counter.

I responded to your peach comment here. Thanks for stopping by my site!

  13. Dee says:

I just realised they were doggy doo, hee hee! Great one Nick! I know exactly who to make these for too. I have a girlfriend with one of those yappy handbag dogs that she dressed up in frocks (I know!)… ;)

Nick, when’s the deadline? Have I missed it?

  14. Cynthia says:

You are nuts! No pun intended :)

  15. Monica says:

Well I have to say I like your style. Apparently my dog does too because these treats have turned out to be crack for her. So I guess thank you for the lifetime of preservative, harm-free, homemade doggie snacks.

  16. Abigail says:

Maybe I’ll make these for my sons, actually! It’s the kind of thing little boys would get a kick out of.

We live in Japan and there is actually a cartoon character called “Unchi kun” (literally, “Little Poop”) and it’s in the shape of a doo-doo, like your treats. Kids in Japan are obsessed with poop for some reason.

  17. Dawn says:

    Poop cookies! I love it!

  18. Erin says:

    Mmm. Poop!

  19. Maggie says:

I made them but couldn’t resist adding some bacon to the recipe. Here are my dogs eating the treats.

  20. Nick says:

All, Thanks for the comments! I knew the poop cookies would be a hit =). Seems like dogs love em and to be honest, I finished an entire batch in 4 days! I’m not sure why, but every person I fed them to said the same thing as me: “yikes they’re dry……give me another one” and *poof* they were gone.

  21. Dogs should never be feed wheat, corn or soy,Period! Spouted grain products are ok. In these recipes substitute for wheat flour: rice flour or other gluten free flour (without corn, buckwheat, etc) You can also grind some of their food into a course flour like consistency and use it.
Also substitute the wheat germ for ground flax seed.
    The shape: genius and funny.

  22. Nick says:

Beth Thanks for the tip, I didn’t know that. Is it because of the gluten? Doesn’t wheat germ have gluten?

  23. Heather says:

hahahahahahaha. i love that you made them even though you don’t have a dog ;) glad you enjoyed them! and the shapes are… lovely!

Perfect! Never new that holiday existed, but there are a ton of wacky holidays out there. I’ll suggest the same to my girlfriend who is starting her teaching career this Fall!

  25. Brieanna says:

I made my dogs the treats and they loved them! when i fed them the poop shaped treats, one of my friends came in and laughed at the shape of them! I think your a genius! i also used the recipe and made a cat shaped one! i made them because dogs dislike cats! i also made one in a shape of a mailman lol!
