Oh boy, do I have a treat for you guys. This recipe was carefully crafted over the past 2 weeks until I found the perfect combination and ratio of ingredients. I call it Cheesy Bacon Oatmeal but it’s so much more than that. Not only do I add peanut butter, but spicy peanuts and a splash of buffalo wing sauce too. This recipe is like going to the diner for breakfast, taking your plate and your significant-others’ plate and mashing them together in a bowl. Delicious and quite healthy too, depending on the ingredients you use. I use a thick-sliced smoked turkey bacon and Alpine Lace American cheese.

Ingredients:Print

1/3 cup oats
1/2 cup milk
2 slices chopped bacon or turkey bacon, uncooked
2 Tbsp shredded Cheddar cheese or 1 slice American cheese
2 Tbsp spicy peanuts
1 Tbsp creamy peanut butter
1 tsp buffalo hot wing sauce
pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Directions:

1. Cook the bacon in a pan until crisp. Set aside.

2. Combine the oats and milk in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes, or until the oatmeal almost boils over. Stir in the peanut butter, cheese, hot wing sauce and pepper flakes. Top with crumbled bacon and spicy peanuts.

3. Enjoy the heck out of it!

You sure about this one, PBB? These are words that I never thought I’d see together in a sentence much less a recipe. HAHA!!

Haha yes, I’m sure! Judging by the (lack of) responses, apparently the world wasn’t ready for it yet. I’ll save it for the future, when people are more daring =)

I’m going to try it. Sounds so good!

Heh. We made it for breakfast today and it was… surprisingly edible. The bacon, the PB and the hot sauce all combined amazingly well, creating a very solid breakfast. I think it’s a good option for anyone who’s tired of having oatmeal with fruit all the time. I’m sort of quivering when I type this, but next time, I’d add just a tad less peanut butter, because it tasted very nutty indeed. Now I have to make sure to try your other oatmeal recipes too :)

Oh alright. I’m gonna try this but as a vegetarian will forego the bacon. Perhaps I’ll find a salty substitute. I will make my housemates try it with the bacon. I’m still thinking you just may have too much time on your hands. Haha. Will report back.

Haha, let me know how it works out. The spicy peanuts give it a nice crunch, so maybe the bacon isn’t necessary? I used crispy salami for this recipe yesterday and it was great, but that doesn’t help you much. Maybe some Gimme Lean sausage? Or simply try it without for now.
