We’ve all done it. Stuck our finger in the cookie dough and indulged in salmonella-laden delight. Human willpower is an extraordinary force, but it’s defenseless against cookie dough. That gritty, sweet taste and smooth, buttery texture – it’s irresistible. While it may be tempting to eat the entire bowl, would you really want to? Probably not. I don’t think your stomach (inside or outside) would appreciate that. So let’s make it a little lot healthier so you can lick that bowl with a clean conscience. This idea came from a fellow blogger. He calls it “dessert hummus” but I think it deserves more credit. This stuff tastes like raw cookie dough. Not 100%. But 90%. My addition was to use homemade cinnamon-sugar chips for dipping. Yes, you should have this for breakfast tomorrow.

Directions:

1. Transform the corn tortillas into chips by using this recipe: Homemade Tortilla Chips. Remember to sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar on top of the chips before baking.

2. Meanwhile, add the first four ingredients to a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. If your chocolate chips are large, add them to the mixture and process until they are chopped. Taste, and add more maple syrup if desired. Place the dough in a bowl in the fridge and serve cold or at room temperature, with cinnamon-sugar tortilla chips.

    1. I love peanut butter. i’m out of food if I don’t have PB on the shelf or in the fridge.
    2. Where would the world be without maple syrup or vanilla extract?
    3. Dark chocolate is to die for.
    4. Where would Mexico and the USA be without tortillas?
    5. cinnamon and sugar are the cornerstones of todays baking.
    All this said and done, I have never tasted chickpeas in any shape fashion or form that did not turn my stomach, at least a little. I don’t know know why, but I just cannot stand them. This dish sounds great, except for the chickpeas. Can you suggest a substitution?

      Haha, I think you need to get over your phobia. I used to hate chickpeas too but this dish is totally worth it. But if you must, I think white beans (cannellini) or butter beans would work just as well. They might turn out a little creamier, but the flavor should be similar. Give it a shot!

  6. I’ve been wanting to make this stuff for forever now, so thanks for posting this in order to remind me of it again. Does it get better than dessert hummus? I think not. I’m going to get my booty in the kitchen right now and whip up a batch of this stuff. Have you ever tried it with almond butter? I bet that would be a good little variation too.

      This is one of those recipes that as soon as I saw it, I had to make it the next day. I know if I just saved this recipe it would never get made. In the past week, I’ve already made 4 batches of this stuff! And I’m sure it’d be great with almond butter!

    Thanks Nick, I love butter beans with a passion. I’ll try that. I’m in my 60’s, well into my 60’s, so I don’t think there is chance I will get over my phobia. Although I am going to try this with the butter beans. Thanks again.

      Hmm, you may be right. But still, peanuts and chickpeas are in the same food family (legumes)!
