What good is good food without someone to share it with? That’s one of the reasons I started the Peanut Butter Boy. That and I wanted a place to store my recipes that could be accessed anywhere (never know when you’ll need to whip up a batch of pancakes). Recently I’ve been interacting and sharing with more and more people. For one thing, click here to view/join the Peanut Butter Boy Blog Network on Facebook.
I’ve also joined Twitter and found it a great way to interact/network amongst other foodies. Anyone watch the show Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern? As the title suggests he eats bizarre foods from around the world, some of them still writhing and wriggling. Well I wanted to know the worst food he’s experienced so I asked him on Twitter. His response: “Stinky tofu in Taiwan. Hands down.” Not what I expected considering what else he’s eaten but now I’ll be sure to steer clear of that delicacy. Click here to view/follow me on Twitter. I’m starting to get into Twitter and noticed the need to shorten URLs (website links). There are a few services out there like tinyurl.com and is.gd but I wanted ones that were more specific and had more features. I’m excited to release 3 new websites that I’ve created devoted to this. Read the details below…
What?
http://eaturl.info – EatURL for “eating up” any link into a smaller one
http://blogurl.info – BlogURL for shortening those super-long blog links
http://foodurl.info – FoodURL for shortening food blog or food-related links
Why?
Ever send a link to someone? By email? over Facebook or Twitter? Website URLs can be (and generally are) quite long. This makes it impossible to read the link to someone (say, over the phone) or post on social websites like Facebook or Twitter because they just don’t fit and even in an email, long links can “break” and become unclickable. Well, the above websites make sharing links easier. They shorten the URL (http://…) so it’s faster to type and easier to share yet still takes you directly to the original site! It essentially just covers up that long, nasty URL with a short, randomly generated one that will never expire. It takes only 1 second to create one and you can do it even faster by creating a Bookmark for whenever you are at a website you wish to send someone. As soon as you click the Bookmark, the URL of the site you were at will be instantly turned into a short URL.
How?
It’s quite simple really, simply go to one of the sites above and enter a long URL.
Into this: http://eaturl.info/y8rr
Click the links, they both take you directly to the same page. In addition, you can check the stats for every URL created if you want to know how many people have clicked it. For the above example the stats link is the following:
Stats: http://eaturl.info/?y8rr
By simply adding a question mark before the random characters you will be taken to a page that tells you where the link points and how many people have clicked on it. This also doubles as a “safe page” for bringing the people who click it to that screen before they proceed to the page so they can see where the link points and confirm it isn’t spam.
Give these sites a try, see what you think. Enter a long URL from your blog or from a Google search to see how much shorter it becomes, you won’t break it, although if you find any bugs or have any feedback at all, I’d love to hear it.

Oooh I just had fun playing with the Eat URL :)
By the way, that Random widget you’ve got on the sidebar is driving me crazy. It keeps showing me a pretty picture so I click on it, get excited about a recipe, and then notice that there’s a new random picture which of course I have to click on. (Imagine this happening about a dozen times in a row). Now how am I supposed to get anything done today with all these enticing pictures beckoning to me, hm?
I’m glad I could provide some delicious distractions! ~ Nick
