Welcome to the 16th installment of the peanut butter reviews here at Peanut Butter Boy. This time I take an exclusive look at foreign (non-U.S.) peanut butter. Can the rest of the world live up to the U.S., the powerhouse producer of peanut butter? Frankly, no, they can’t. While we’re not #1 at everything, the United States can’t be beat in the world of peanut butter. But that doesn’t stop the rest of the world from trying, and there are some close contenders. Whether you’re from North America or abroad, what is your favorite peanut butter where you’re from?

Ever subscribe to a magazine that conveniently skips an issue but then releases a “special double issue” that’s only about 10% longer? That’s like this post! I apologize for the infrequent posts but it’s due to my vacation in Canada, which led me through Montreal, Quebec and Jacques-Cartier National Park, with a stop in Manchester (Vermont) on the way home. But this Special Double-Post will offer a glimpse into my vacation and my discoveries of Canadian peanut butter. Can the midget-sized jar of Mystery Butter defeat the triple-sized jar from the corporate-giant Kraft in a taste test? Moreover, does this Mystery Butter give me magical powers? Probably. Is it delicious? Definitely.

* Special note for my fellow east coasters – I wish you the best of luck with Irene!

I think crunchy is underrated. Supposedly, 60% of people prefer creamy peanut butter while only 40% prefer crunchy. I’m a big fan of creamy, but when you eat as much peanut butter as I do you begin to crave some texture. Once you find the perfect crunchy peanut butter – the one with the perfect number of chunks, the crunchiest chunks and the ultimate flavor – there’s no turning back. That’s why the 14th installment of peanut butter reviews will focus on 4 different crunchy peanut butters, and I guarantee you’ve never heard of them all. I should warn you, 2 of these peanut butters are some of the WORST I’ve ever had. Now that I’ve built up your excitement, read on…

To celebrate St. Patrick’s day, here’s a recap of my trip to Ireland and my quest to find peanut butter in my homeland (I’m 37.5% Irish!). Ireland was everything I hoped for and more. After landing in Dublin we drove our over-priced rental car across the country and back, staying in Athlone, Dingle, Killarney, Kilkenny and Dublin along the way. We stayed in 5 B&B’s, toured 2 breweries (Smithwick’s and Guinness) and saw/smelled more cows than I can count. I found a new favorite beer, Guinness Foreign Extra, but unfortunately I’ll never have another unless I return to Ireland or visit Nigeria or the Carribean (Update: It’s been imported to the US!). Read on for the details of my hunt for peanut butter in Ireland.

I can’t believe this is the 13th peanut butter review. Considering each review consists of at least 3 varieties, that’s a lot of peanut butter! But I guess it’s only fitting for the Peanut Butter Boy. This time around, I have a special treat for you. Normally, these reviews consist of unique peanut butter that is difficult to find in stores. In that respect, this review is no different. However, I’ve teamed up with the founder of My Better Butter to giveaway all of the peanut butters reviewed here!

Loco, and everything in between. But it’s time for a review of some simple, basic peanut butter from different regions of the country. Also, check out my new 10-jar rating system! Each and every peanut butter reviewed on my site now has a score from 1 to 10 jars. Yellow jars are for standard peanut butter and Red jars are for flavored ones.

Given the sheer amount of peanut butter in my house, I think another peanut butter review is in order. This time I bring you a tale of 2 vastly different and unique peanut butters. The first is Krema, a company that produces under two different labels: Krema and Crazy Richard’s. The two brands are identical products but marketed in different areas – it seems that people from the midwest prefer the term “Krema” while mid-atlantic inhabitants prefer to believe there is a mentally unstable man named Richard stomping peanuts into peanut butter. Once Again is a worker-owned company with a wide range of products that are very unique. Read on for all the gooey peanutty goodness!

The greatest city in the world has some of the best food in the world. Despite living so close to and often visiting Manhattan, I don’t consider myself very knowledgeable on the best places to eat. It’s overwhelming how much there is to choose from. Taking a food tour of New York never occurred to me until I was contacted by New York Food Tours and offered “The Ultimate New York Food and Culture Tour” in the West Village. The tour included bounds of information as well as tastings of cannolis, pizza, falafels and of course, a visit to Peanut Butter & Co. Can you tell the difference between The Peanut Butter Boy and The Peanut Allergic Boy above?

And there’s no place I’d rather live than America, because only in America will you find pancakes as large as a pizza, pizzas the size of a car, and cars as large as an elephant. But above all, America is #1 because we are the home of peanut butter. And it’s because of this fact that there is a neverending supply of different peanut butters for me to review. So thank you America, for being the undisputed champion of grinding legumes into a brown, salty paste. And thank you Justin’s and Naturally More, for sending me some fabulous peanut butter.

Nothing pleases me more than sitting down with 10 jars of peanut butter and a spoon to taste and review each one. Sometimes I think that’s what heaven would be like, except you wouldn’t get full and the jars wouldn’t run out. But my spiritual beliefs in peanut butter have yet to enlighten me as to why all the different brands, varieties and flavors of peanut butter that exist in America have yet to spread to the rest of the world. In terms of peanut butter technology, the US is light years ahead. No complaints here except that I’m unable to leave the country for extended periods of time. Now for this round of reviews, I go over some crucial store brands you may have missed as well as some interesting flavored peanut butter from upstate New York.
