Individually, dark chocolate and peanut butter are two of my favorite foods. But when these powerhouses combine forces, you’ve got a rich, creamy and gourmet spread that is unlike anything else. However, a few words of wisdom: It does not work with everything. A toasted chocolate peanut butter and banana sandwich? Incredible. But, a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich may or may not hit the taste buds correctly, it all depends on the jelly. For example, dark cherry preserves will complement fabulously while a grape jelly will clash. Second word of wisdom: Keep spoons away from the jar. This peanut butter is extra creamy and extra delicious, resistance is futile. Hungry yet?

Today I take another step forward in my peanut butter career. I’ve spent a good part of my life buying, eating and reviewing peanut butter. Favorites range from cheap store brands to expensive, small-batch local brands. But none of those brands compare to a spoonful from a warm, fresh batch of homemade peanut butter. The best method: get a Vitamix blender. It’s pricey but will be your forever-favorite kitchen tool. It works like a dream for fresh ice cream and can not only puree soup but also cook it for you. That being said, it’s a dream of mine to start a peanut butter company one day. Tasting this peanut butter has only pushed me further…

While many companies produce flavored peanut butter, few dare to create a savory one. This is an attempt to clone the “Heat is On” peanut butter from Peanut Butter & Co., an often overlooked and under-appreciated flavor in my opinion. Make a small batch, or a double batch, but make sure it’s ready for what I’ve got in store. The uses for this spread are endless.

In this post, I plan to reveal three separate and very delicious recipes – one of which is the aforementioned *secret* peanut butter flavor. I’ve been slaving day and night to get the correct proportions, but I think I’ve got it just right. Plain and simple, these crepes are incredible. Like traditional crepes, they are thin and crispy with the bonus of being super healthy. The way I prepare them here is just my most recent concoction (but probably the best).

Today is a national holiday, do you know which one? April 2nd, for whatever reason, is national peanut butter & jelly day. I had almost forgotten, but since I had already planned to make pancakes, I skipped the oatmeal today. As you can see, I made the pancakes three different ways for comparison.

In order to make up for my lack of jelly usage, I decided to make this post extra special by posting two recipes, one being a slightly modified version of an old favorite and the other being a brand new peanut butter flavor! I was inspired from a post by Kristina over at The Chocolate Peanut Butter Gallery, revealing two new Peanut Butter & Co peanut butter flavors. One they blatantly stole from me (who would have thunk peanut butter & honey?), so the other I’m stealing from them. Not to mention that this new flavor goes perfect on these scrumptious pancakes which have now been enhanced! Happy Peanut Butter & Jelly Day everybody!

Honey roasted peanuts are one of those simple creations that are simply divine which is the exact reason I never buy them. They come in large containers which somehow seem so much smaller when you sit down with them. If you’re ever in a Whole Foods that has a peanut butter grinder with honey roasted peanuts in it, fill the nearest 10 gallon pail and proceed to checkout because it is some of the best peanut butter I’ve had. Otherwise, instead of trekking all the way there, just follow this embarrassingly simple “recipe”.
