Welcome to San Gimignano (Jim-in-Yan-oh), a small medieval town near Florence, Italy. This isn’t my house you see above, but I want it, so let’s pretend it is. I’m here to take you on a journey to Florence. Our goal is simple: to see, eat and haggle as much as possible in 4 days. Along the way we’ll find enough meat, cheese and wine to make you totally forget about fruits and vegetables. But the big question still remains: will we find burro di arichidi (Italian for “peanut butter”) in this gorgeous Italian city?

Update (06/15/11): Did you just get an email that this was a new post? It’s not. I have no idea why that email was sent out. Sorry! By the way, this was originally just an April Fools joke =)

Blindsided. That’s the best way to describe what happened to me. Yesterday, for the first time, I had a Whopper Junior at Burger King. My first bite into the perfectly toasted bun, hand-crafted burger and brilliantly ripe tomatoes nearly dropped me to my knees. Thankfully, I was sitting next to Ronald McDonald on his bench. I had intended to get a Big Mac for comparison, but now there was no need and there never will be. I vow to eat a Whopper Junior for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the rest of my life – no more peanut butter. Therefore, I am officially changing my blog to Junior Whopper Boy, effective immediately. I would name it “Whopper Junior Boy” but I don’t want to infringe on any copyrights. I have already purchased the website www.juniorwhopperboy.com and will be diverting traffic there soon. You may be wondering how I plan to eat the same thing for every meal? Read on for my recipe ideas…

To celebrate St. Patrick’s day, here’s a recap of my trip to Ireland and my quest to find peanut butter in my homeland (I’m 37.5% Irish!). Ireland was everything I hoped for and more. After landing in Dublin we drove our over-priced rental car across the country and back, staying in Athlone, Dingle, Killarney, Kilkenny and Dublin along the way. We stayed in 5 B&B’s, toured 2 breweries (Smithwick’s and Guinness) and saw/smelled more cows than I can count. I found a new favorite beer, Guinness Foreign Extra, but unfortunately I’ll never have another unless I return to Ireland or visit Nigeria or the Carribean (Update: It’s been imported to the US!). Read on for the details of my hunt for peanut butter in Ireland.

It’s a FREE event open to the public this weekend in NYC for 3 days only (March 4th – March 6th). Each family in attendance gets a free jar of peanut butter plus a second jar of peanut butter donated to the NYC Food Bank in your honor. Peanut Butter Boy will be attending the press event earlier in the week, but if it’s as cool as it sounds, I may make an entrance on the weekend too! Read on for all the gooey details.

The greatest city in the world has some of the best food in the world. Despite living so close to and often visiting Manhattan, I don’t consider myself very knowledgeable on the best places to eat. It’s overwhelming how much there is to choose from. Taking a food tour of New York never occurred to me until I was contacted by New York Food Tours and offered “The Ultimate New York Food and Culture Tour” in the West Village. The tour included bounds of information as well as tastings of cannolis, pizza, falafels and of course, a visit to Peanut Butter & Co. Can you tell the difference between The Peanut Butter Boy and The Peanut Allergic Boy above?

Today, I leave for Ireland. Don’t worry, I’ll return. I’m going for 10 days starting in Dublin, driving to the Dingle then back to Dublin while stopping in several cities along the way. It’s perfect timing too – I’m an ethnic mutt but thought that my major ethnicity was 25% Irish. However, I recently found out that I am 37.5% Irish, which calculates out to 3 more pints of Guinness per day that my body requires. For 10 days I’ll be pledging allegiance to the “Green, White and Orange” and getting back to 37.5% of my roots. But what do the colors of the Irish flag represent? I think I’ve uncovered the truth…

I’m a child of the 80’s, a time of tacky hairstyles, jelly shoes and gaudy pajama pants worn as everyday attire. 1987 in particular was a good year – a gallon of gas was $0.89, Nirvana was formed, and a brilliant man named Akira Kitamura created Mega Man. The Mega Man games were simple to play – one button to jump, another to shoot – but they were impossible to beat, which is why I never played them as a kid. But as I’ve aged so have video games. Games nowadays are flashy but they are expensive and have steep learning curves, too many buttons, and lack a simple pick-up-and-play aspect. When I purchased a PS3, I longed for some good oldies that I could play in my free time. I soon stumbled on a compilation game that contained all 8 original Mega Man games and have been a man obsessed ever since. So when Halloween was near there was only one idea floating around in my head. Read on to learn how to make a Mega Man costume for under $24 as well as what I call “Mega Man Power Juice”.

Please welcome Charlie Hills, author of the hilarious “diet” book you see over there. ~ Nick

Hi there! Charlie Hills here, on the second stop of my Virtual Book Tour. I wanted to thank Nick for hosting this stop. And it’s not because I get the opportunity to promote my book, but because I finally get to finally realize the life-long dream of every author: the chance to prepare the Unnatural Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich.

Of course, if you’re interested in the book, click here, or visit the links at the bottom of this post. And if you want to win this book, read on for that too. But that’s not what’s important right now. No. Right now you must instead prepare yourself for an epic journey into the depths of my culinary imagination.

If you ever get a chance to visit the Richmond District in San Francisco, be sure to walk along Clement Street between 2nd and 11th Avenue. The area is a less touristy Chinatown with a few other ethnicities mixed in. Here you’ll find some of the cheapest produce markets intermixed with import stores and a variety of ethnic restaurants and bakeries, click here for pictures of the area. If you’re hungry, stop at a small, family-run restaurant called Mai’s Vietnamese Restaurant. The owners are so warm, friendly and helpful and the ingredients are incredibly fresh and delicious. They’ll teach you how to cook the thinly sliced beef in hot vinegar and roll it into spring rolls if you order the Bo Nhung Dam, which I do every time. With a little advice from White on Rice Couple, I began to make these fresh spring rolls at home. It’s a light and fresh meal that leaves you satisfied but never stuffed. I added my own touch by dipping them in a sweet and salty peanut sauce.
